Workshop: Don’t refresh the page, refresh yourself – reading in a digital world
Location: Room 1b | Time: 4:55pm-5:25pm | Date: Tuesday 2nd April 2019
Replacement and enhancement are norms in a digital world, but isn’t there a danger that some fundamentals get left behind? Extended reading can really help students expand their word knowledge, improve writing and grammar scores and lead to a richer vocabulary.
In this practical workshop we’ll take a closer look at the role of Readers in the 21st century classroom.
What will you learn?
During the workshop you will investigate the impact of technology on reading and how to deal with it. The main takeaways include:
- The importance of extended reading
- How to include extensive reading as part of a course
- How technology has affected the way people read
Who is the talk for?
This talk is suitable for everyone! Whether you teach young learners, teens, adults or even business classes, you will go back to your class with a fresh outlook on reading in the digital age.
Meet Phil at the Readers Corner
Would you like to know more about using technology to help students with their reading? Or perhaps you didn’t get the chance to attend Phil’s talk? Then come along to the Pearson English Readers Corner on Wednesday lunchtime, where Phil will be available to answer all your questions.
What is the Readers Corner?
This year at IATEFL we’re creating a space where you can sit back, relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of the conference.
As well as having the opportunity to browse a large selection of our Readers, you’ll also be able to listen to four-minute audio clips of some of your favorite stories.
What’s more, there will also be a charging booth so you can refuel your mobile while checking out our library of Readers.
Competition: Win a collection of Readers stories
The competition will run during IATEFL (1st-5th April 2019). However, it’s open to everyone. So even if you aren’t able to attend, make sure you take part!
To enter, tell us which one of our Readers you’d most like to read during the Easter break and why. Share your answer on Facebook or Twitter, using the hashtags #IATEFL2019 and #readers and #easter. Don’t forget to tag @PearsonEnglish so we can see your post!
Whoever submits the most original post will win! So, make sure your entry is fun and compelling. For example, you could come to the Readers Corner and take a selfie in front of the wall of art full of quotes from famous stories.
Don’t forget to read the full terms and conditions before entering.
Good luck and we hope to see some of you at IATEFL 2019!
